About Us
After living in New York City for almost 15 years, the daily appeal of Wall Street was starting to wane. We loved the city and all it had to offer for our family, but after spending a vacation in the country, we started to feel the pull of holistic living. The first change was homeschool and growing some jalapeño peppers on our upper west side balcony. We thought that would be enough for us to connect to the earth and each other. We soon learned that as you start living holistically in one or more aspects of life, you quickly desire all that it entails to be organic and whole.
When a business opportunity came up for us to relocate to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, we threw caution to the wind and uprooted our family from the bustling city, where we traded unusual sights (Big Bird roller blading on the subway) for unusual sights (a bull moose eating the wreath on our front door).
After integrating to our new lifestyle “in town” (where the elevation is definitely higher than the population), we built a small, white farmhouse on 15 acres at the base of the Tetons. An orchard, large garden, dairy cow, sheep, pigs, chickens, ducks, geese, and bees soon followed. Of course that naturally led to wool creations, soap and natural cosmetic making, honey, milk, eggs, organic meat, and textile production. Our customers (as well as our own family) love knowing that all of our animals and products have been produced and raised in a healthy, loving, holistic environment, and have enjoyed their life to the fullest-be it berry, bee, or bovine.
We have also become passionate about climate change and the environment (how can you not after living in such a beautiful valley??) and doing everything we can to have a positive impact on our planet. Here at Bluebird Hollow, we pride ourselves on everything from cloth diapers that line dry and pasture grazing animals, to biking our products to our local buyers. We breath in the fresh air, as we ride past Blue Herons, Sandhill Cranes, and the ever ubiquitous sign that spring has sprung here in the high rockies- the Mountain Bluebird.
“Who are you?!” our friends and family now ask, as our lifestyle change has been as dramatic as night to day. Before I answer, I look down and see a baby that is sleeping peacefully in a front carrier on my chest, a barefoot toddler in a homemade linen romper who is chasing the chickens, some older girls running through the wild flowers that grow in abundance, and some teenagers who are excitedly calling for me to come see the new calf that was born last night. After taking it all in with delight and gratitude, I cheerfully respond…….“BLUEBIRD HOLLOW!”
